FAQ's about crystals

Frequently asked questions...

How quickly will my crystals arrive?

In most cases all orders placed before 2 PM Monday to Friday are processed and dispatched the same day, all orders placed after will be dispatched the next day. All orders placed during the weekend or on a public holiday will be sent on Monday or on the next business day.

How do I care for my crystal?

Most crystals other than friable (those that easily crumble) crystals can be cleansed by being held under running water or immersed in the sea or in salt water. As you hold the crystal in the water think about the negative energies being washed away and that the crystal is being reenergised.

You can also recharge your crystals by placing them in the light of the sun or the full moon. Make sure they aren't a stone that fades in colour if left in the light, such as rose quartz, and always remember that the sun's rays, if focussed incorrectly onto flammable objects, may cause fires.

Friable crystals can be left overnight in sea or rock salt, but make sure you gently brush away every speck of salt afterwards as this can damage the crystal over time.

There are certain crystals that don’t need cleansing as they are self-cleansing or in some cases can even cleanse other crystals they are in contact with such as Carnelian, Selenite and Clear Quartz Clusters.

You can also smudge crystals by using sage or palo alto sticks, or by passing them through the light of a candle.

How do I programme my crystal?

Crystals need their dedications and intentions set so that they can focus their energies and work for you in the way you intend.

You should do this straight away after you cleanse your crystal: To dedicate your crystal, simply hold it in your hand and say ‘I dedicate this crystal to the highest good of all. May it be used in light and love’.

If you want your crystal to work on a specific purpose then you need to be precise about your intentions for the crystal, and you need to make sure that you've chosen exactly the right crystal for that purpose. If, for example, you want to attract love, then you need to describe exactly what kind of love; if it's for healing, then you need to be clear for which condition and what you want to happen.

Once you are in tune, then you are ready to program your crystal. Hold it in your hand and say out loud ‘I program this crystal for (your purpose)’. Then put the crystal in a place where you will see it frequently, or keep it in your pocket. Try to handle it as many times as you can during the day. You may need to repeat the programming several times to give it more power and clarity.

How do I choose the right crystal?

There are so many crystals to choose from and it can sometimes be hard to know which one or ones are right for you. You should always trust your intuition and choose those that you are immediately drawn to. Handle as many crystals as you can, put your hand into a tub of that crystal type and wait until one attaches to you, if you feel a tingle from one, then that is definitely the one for you.

If you want to choose a crystal for a specific purpose, then there's a lot of information available to you on the internet and in crystal books. Any good crystal supplier should be able to provide the basic beneficial properties of the crystals they are selling so you can select one that has the specific qualities you are looking for.

If you're still unsure, you can always start by selecting your birthstone crystals, or the crystals that resonate with your particular zodiac signs, or to the planets connected to your sign.

Always remember to cleanse any new crystal you buy or are given, as crystals can retain energy from people that have handled them before you.

How do I meditate with my crystal?

One of the easiest ways to get connected and in tune with your crystal is to meditate with it. A simple mediation is to hold the crystal in both hands or place it on a low table in front of you. Breathe gently, letting each out-breath be longer than the in-breath. With each breath out let go of any tension or stress you may be feeling. With each breath in, let the peace flow into you and through your body.

With softly focused eyes look at your crystal, notice its colour and shape, and try to feel the vibrations. Let yourself wander within the crystal, and, when ready, close your eyes and contemplate the energies of the crystal. It will, in turn, teach you about itself.

Once you have finished your meditation, make sure you ground yourself by holding a grounding crystal, such as smoky quartz, with your feet firmly on the floor.

How are crystals used in healing?

Crystals have been used throughout time to heal and balance the body and mind by resonance and vibrations. They are even used in modern medical practices today.

Crystals are piezoelectric, which means they can create electricity and sound waves.
Ultrasound machines use crystals to create a tightly focused sound wave which is then used to cauterize wounds deep within the body. Crystals have been used for this purpose for centuries by shamans and crystal healers. Crystals can be either calming or energizing. A crystal wand can be rotated against the skin to sedate an overactive organ or stimulate a sluggish one.

There are so many crystals, all of which have different healing properties. They all work through vibration to rebalance the body's energies to its chakra points, which in turn provides natural healing to physical, emotional or psychological complaints.

To gain maximum benefits from crystal healing you need to be properly trained or treated by someone who is qualified or experienced. You should always use crystal healing as complimentary treatment to modern medicine and not in isolation. Always seek medical advice from a doctor as well as holistic healers.

How are crystals formed?

Crystals are the earth’s DNA. They were created as the earth was formed and contain the records of the development of the earth over millions of years. They continue to morph and grow as the planet changes today.

They are very versatile as they grow in all sorts of environments. Some have been subjected to enormous pressure, some to extremes of heat or cold, and some have formed in chambers deep underground. Some have formed in layers upon layers, and some have even dripped into existence over long periods of time. The environments in which they formed affects their properties and the way they function.

Crystals are built from one of the seven possible geometric forms: squares, rectangles, triangles, hexagons, rhomboids, parallelograms or trapeziums.

Whatever form they take, their crystalline structure can absorb, converse, focus and emit energy, especially on the electromagnetic waveband.
